There was a time when saloon cars ruled the car sales charts, but they eventually went out of fashion to be replaced by the more practical hatchback. But, despite the demonising of the SUV by ‘green’ groups, compact SUVs/Crossovbers have become the favourite flavour for car buyers as they seek something practical and with the promise of a bit of go anywhere credentials (even if they are cosmetic rather than mechanical). So it’s no surprise to see cars like the Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008 and Renault Captur starting to grab sales from small hatches.
Audi A3 e-Tron Hybrid Shanghai - yet another e-Tron Concept
Where would we be at a major motor show without Audi and an e-Tron concept? So far we’ve had an Audi e-tron trundled out in everything from a super mini to a super car, and with a range of powertrains from a very sensible range-extender in the Audi A1 e-Tron to the frankly ludicrous claims of the first R8 e-Tron delivering 3,319lbs/ft of torque. What we get for Shanghai is the Audi A3 e-Tron.

Indian car customisers DC Design are to reveal a home-grown, mid-engined supercar at the Delhi Motor Show next week. From wild and slightly wacky takes on a Rolls Royce Coupe to SUV madness with the Porsche Cayenne, DC Design has pandered to the wilder flights of fancy of India’s spiritual successors to the car-mad Maharajas.
